Amish Stories Book Club - Quilts of Kindness - Virtual Author Visit

Join us for discussion of Amish stories and Amish life. We'll meet at 1:00pm every second Wednesday at the Wells (Albany) Library.

Today, special guest, author Judy Stavisky will join us by Zoom.

For a decade, Judy Stavisky shopped with Amish women as they loaded up on bulk groceries at Costco, purchased bolts of dark fabric for home-made clothes, and found replacement parts for faulty coal stoves and sewing machines. Judy attended doctor’s visits with Amish mothers and their children, observed classes taught in one-room schoolhouses and canned bushels of produce in August’s blistering heat. Her book In Plain View is a glimpse into the often-unseen and frequently misunderstood Amish culture. The photographs taken by Dennis Hughes, one of Lancaster’s most well-respected photographers add extraordinary richness to the book.
