Program Description
Event Details
Come learn the basics of tapestry-style weaving!
Self-taught weaver Dennis Miller hand-built a loom from scratch and will bring his loom to the Athens Public Library for the month of October.
In this program participants can learn weaving techniques from Dennis and hear about his inspiration from the Navajo weaving tradition and his process for building the loom.
Throughout our Arts in October month, Dennis will also be set up weaving from 12-2pm each Monday-Friday. The public is invited to sign up for slots to weave with him throughout the month - or on their own, once they have completed instruction with Dennis.
On Wednesday, October 9th from 6-7:30pm, the library will also host a program on spinning and plant dyeing wool, and we will be incorporating the hand-spun and dyed yarn into our community weaving effort.
About your presenter:
Dennis Miller is a man of many talents. In addition to weaving, he has built an electric car from scratch! During his weaving sessions at the Athens Library, he will have his electric car, "Sun Rocket," and his solar charging station set up in the parking lot. If participants are curious about electric cars and small-scale solar, Dennis is happy to chat with them after weaving sessions!
