Program Description

Event Details

In his 1980 book, William E. Bridges introduced a new way of thinking about change and transition: that change is what happens on the outside, while transition is an inner process. The principles of his book can help us prepare mentally for such things as imminent retirement, anticipating a baby or an empty nest, dealing with a divorce, or moving from one job to another. If you're exploring new possibilities or want to expand your networks, this presentation can offer both a framework and support.

Our presenter: Mara Holt retired from Ohio University as a Professor in 2020 after 32 years as a rhetoric and writing specialist. She has four decades of experience leading workshops and book discussions, and her own book is titled Collaborative Learning as Democratic Practice.  She's a member The Transition Network (ttnwomen.com) for women over 50 and has twice facilitated a 7-week program called “Unpacking Whiteness” and a 4-week program called "Allyship." Locally, she's a member of the Racial Equity Coalition of Athens County and has also developed and maintained a weekly Buddhist reading group on Zoom since 2019.
