Program Description

Event Details

First published in 1929, A Farewell to Arms was Ernest Hemingway's first bestselling novel, and remains a literary classic. It is a story of romance between a soldier and a nurse on the Italian front during the First World War, an affair of love made possible by the war and ironically threatened by that war.  Its story is semi-autobiographical, reflecting Hemingway's own experiences as a military ambulance driver during World War I.

Our guest discussion leader is Dr. David Savola, a retired professor and scholar of Hemingway's fiction.

Sponsored by the Friends of Athens County Libraries.
