Tender is the Night: A Book Club (Part 2 of 3)

Join us for an in-depth discussion of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel set largely in the French Riviera in an American expatriate community at the end of the Jazz Age. The novel focuses on a successful psychiatrist and his wife, who experiences a mental breakdown. The story acts as a mirror to Fitzgerald's own life, the mental disintegration of his wife, Zelda, and his own descent into alcoholism, but deals with so much more.  Interestingly, Fitzgerald began writing it right after he published his more famous novel, The Great Gatsby; however, it took him nearly a decade to write. Not well received by critics in his own time, it is now considered one of Fitzgerald's greatest literary achievements.
