Event Details

First published in 1961, this novel is one of the earliest examples of the "cli-fi" (climate science) fiction subgenre. Fascinatingly, it deals with the impact of global warming, where human beings are forced to live at the Earth's poles when the rest of the planet's surface becomes uninhabitable due to aridity, extreme tropical conditions, and rising sea levels. The plot focuses on a group of scientists who mount an expedition to the lagoon where the former city of London once existed to study its new ecology and biosphere. Join us to hear about their fate!

Our discussion will be led by Dr. Joseph McLaughlin, associate professor of English at Ohio University.
