On Exhibit on the Circulation Area Wall, March 2nd thru March 30th.
"For my 1954 kindergarten class photo at Public School 35 in Queens, New York, I am the only member of the class posed with an easel, my paintbrush poised for action as I face the camera.
"I spent 4 years in the U. S. Coast Guard and then attended graduate school at Ohio University. I was employed as an art teacher in the Athens City Schools for 32 years. I have been painting off and on all my life. I simply love to paint. Painters like Hans Hoffman, Robert Rauschenberg, Joseph Cornell, Jean Michel Basquiat, and many others have influenced me.
"In the late 1970s, I began to introduce shadows into my work in a shallow shadow-box format. This evolved over the years into what you see now. I usually create a surface using recycled paint and other found objects. Then I move to the backside of glass for the markings that create the shadows. I never quite know what the piece will eventually evolve into. Some happen very quickly, and others take a lot of time and manipulation. I tend to use a circle or circles in all my pieces to add an element of unity, wholeness, and never-ending cycles that I find in nature and the universe. I hope you enjoy the work." -- David Stobbart
A Meet the Artist event will take place in the Circulation Area at 6:00pm on Tuesday, March 14th.
