Bipolar disorder – formerly called manic depression – effects between 2% and 4%
of the U.S. Population. Featuring mood fluctuations from periods of
deep depression to normality to wild mania (ill-considered spending,
delusional thinking and behavior), it disrupts and frequently destroys
the victim’s life. Yet, in spite of her disorder, our guest speaker, Ms.
Amy Gamble, has two college degrees and 18 years’ experience working
for Fortune 500 companies. Also the Executive Director of NAMI, Wheeling
West Virginia, she is now the author of Bipolar Disorder – My biggest Competitor: An Olympian’s Journey with Mental Illness. Co-Sponsored by NAMI and the Friends of the Athens Public Library.
