Guest speaker Mike Broecker will share his perspective on wildfires and prescribe fires, tapping into his knowledge drawing on years of experience as a firefighter, fire instructor, prescribe fire burn boss, and local land owner. His talk will cover an explanation of fire behavior and terminology, how changes in fuel and weather have created the perfect storm for extreme fire behavior, prescribe burning on your land, and how to protect yourself from wildfires and other natural disasters. 

More about our speaker: Broecker is the Assistant Fire Chief of Waterloo Township Fire Department and teaches Basic Wildland Fire and Prescribe Fire courses. He is an Ohio-certified prescribe fire manager and holds several National Wildfire Coordinating Group qualifications. He worked seasonally for several federal land management agencies while earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Education and his Master’s Degree in Public Administration. His most recent fire assignment took him to Cedar City Utah as a helicopter manager.
