Program Description

Event Details

In this hand-on workshop we will discuss how to turn the fruit of the oak tree (the acorn) into an edible food. We will be processing acorns with a few different methods (pounding and cutting) to get the acorns open, then we will be picking out the nut meat with nut picks. After this is done we will go through steps to grind them into a flour. The presenter asks that all participants wear closed-toed shoes. We will discuss methods for collection, processing, preserving and detoxifying, as well as methods to consider for forest management to yield more acorns.

About your presenter:

Austin Cannon has been practicing earth living skills his whole life. He likes to hunt, fish, trap forage and play in the woods whenever he can.
