Considered one of the greatest novels of 19th century, the first realist novel in Russian literature, and a classic of world literature, Fathers and Sons depicts social change, conflict and adaptation between the generations, who had different outlooks on life and prognoses for what the future of Russia should be.
We will be reading Richard Freeborn’s translation, as published by Oxford World's Classics.
Our guest discussion leader is Vladimir Marchenkov, Professor of Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art in the Department of Interdisciplinary Arts at Ohio University.
