Bonnie Proudfoot will present a creative writing workshop based on the idea that reading poetry can become a springboard for writing poetry. Students will begin by writing a "found" poem in an ancient form, the Cento, and if time allows, the class will also explore a new form, the Golden Shovel poem.
Bonnie Proudfoot moved to the Appalachian region in 1979 and has lived there since, teaching for many years at Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio. She is a fiction writer, a poet, and a glass artist. Her first book, Goshen Road, was selected for the Women's National Book Association's Great Group's Read program and longlisted for the 2021 PEN/Hemingway Award for best debut novel. Her first book of poems, Household Gods, is forthcoming this month on Sheila Na Gig Press.
