In the Large Meeting Room.

In 1843, Senator and former President of the United States, John Quincy Adams made a stage-coach and canal-boat tour of Ohio. Here he surveyed the results of America's first formal extension of democracy and European civilization beyond the original 13 Colonies. The climax of the tour was the installation of an astronomical telescope in the Queen City of Cincinnati, an act that embodied Adams' dream of making America a nation that would contribute to the scientific endeavors of the world and become a leader in the expansion of scientific knowledge.

Our guest speaker is Tom O'Grady, Director of Outreach for the Southeast Ohio History Center.
