Winter Book Club: The Marrow of Tradition & Other Stories (Part 4 of 4)

Charles W. Chestnutt was an African American author who lived in Cleveland, writing realist fiction and folktales in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was also a regular fiction contributor to the Atlantic Monthly. Our discussions will cover Chestnutt's controversial 1901 novel The Marrow of Tradition, which features a 1898 race riot and local government coup in
Wilmington, North Carolina, a story told by multiple character
perspectives. We'll also examine a selection of Chestnutt's short
