On exhibit in the Library Atrium: November 2nd thru November 30th.

"I began woodworking around 1978 as a hobby. My primary interest at that time was to educate myself in the art of construction of wood furniture and to create functional pieces for my own use.  With a few basic tools and my interest, I learned techniques mostly by trial and error, occasionally taking a workshop from 'professionals'. In the 1980s I took classes in making contemporary Windsor style chairs and fell in love with the craft. I started displaying work in various galleries and shows in the 1990s. I have contributed to the Dairy Barn’s 'Works in Wood' show. I have displayed and sold pieces featured in galleries in Colorado and New Mexico as well as locally. I enjoy using highly 'figured' woods of exceptional grain character and combinations of contrasting yet complimentary woods, which I seek out for my pieces. I have experimented with simple straight-line design elements, bevels, tapers, and 'shaped' surfaces, as you will see on my gallery page, always maintaining the functional integrity of the furniture.  My main motivation for working in wood is a love of the medium and for finely crafted hand-made furniture." -- Tom Zano

A reception for this month's exhibitors will be held on Tuesday, November 16th, from 6pm to 7pm, refreshments courtesy of the Friends of the Athens Public Library
