Event Details
Jane Austen is one of the greatest novelists in the English language, and Persuasion was her last completed work, and published in 1817, after her death. Set during the Napoleonic wars, it concerns a woman who desires to rekindle a relationship with a military officer with whom she had broken off their engagement years before, due to outside social pressures. Now the heroine, wiser in her experience of life, asserts her own will to be reunited with her love, but the journey to recover that love is not an easy one. Critics agree that Persuasion shows Austen at a stage in her career when she has reached a perfect maturation of her skills as a novelist.
Our guest discussion leader is literary scholar, Dr. Linda Zionkowski.
