Event Details
Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson is a sequence of short stories, linked by the maturing central protagonist, George Willard. The array of characters are based in part on the types of people the author knew growing up in Clyde, Ohio, but also partially on people he came to know as an adult living in a boarding house in Chicago.
These stories capture the psychological impact of small-town Midwestern life upon ordinary people, and the book's plain, direct style had a great impact on American literature, still connecting with readers a hundred years later.
A native of Clyde, Ohio, our guest discussion leader is Kristin Distel, who holds a PhD in English Literature and co-edited a reissue of Sherwood Anderson’s The Triumph of the Egg, published by Hastings College Press in Spring 2019.
Call to register at 740-592-4272 or register yourself on our online events calendar.
The Penguin Classics edition, edited by Malcolm Cowley is recommended by the discussion leader.
