Event Details
The theremin is history's first electronic musical instrument, and of all the innovations that came after it in the field of electronics, it has the most otherworldly sound. Most people have heard the theremin without knowing what it was in the soundtracks of science fiction movies, most famously in “The Day the Earth Stood Still.” But the inventor of this instrument, Léon Theremin, had a larger vision for his creation. Learn about its history, how it works, and the life of its creator. Our guest speaker is Aaron Butler, Adjunct Professor, OU School of Music. His presentation will follow a live performance with this instrument.Sponsored by the Friends of the Athens Public Library. This event takes place in the Raymond C. Cook Meeting Room.
