Program Description

Event Details

Start at the very beginning with this folk dancing workshop at the Athens Public Library. A great way to ring in the new year with a bit of exercise and a lot of fun!

Scottish Country Dance is similar to contra but with more footwork. Based on ancient rural dances that were dressed up by traveling French masters, these are the jigs and reels that Jane Austen's heroines would have enjoyed.

Who is this program for: You! This class will be perfect if you've never danced before, if you're a pro with patience, or for anyone in the middle. No partner needed. All folks 16+ are welcome!

Attire: Clothes you can move in! Sneakers or ghillies are great on your feet. Skirts, kilts, shorts, or yoga pants are all great. Masks are optional but encouraged since social distancing is not possible.

If you can walk briskly, you can dance. Come celebrate the new year with us!
