"My work is a documentation of a moment in time, frozen through my memory with the help of oil paints. It focuses on places/people/items that have a personal connection to my life, providing me with the time to slowly process moments. While I work, I think and remember that moment; I try to recall it in every detail, with all of my senses. I think of it as a physical picture journal.

All of my work is oil on masonite or board. Most of the time, my dad will cut the board to my specifications and I gesso it myself. But, occasionally I will purchase pre-gesso masonite or board -- if I can find it on sale! I work from photographs that I print on a copier. I then project the photographs onto the board and create the initial sketch with a combination of projection, freehand, and memory. I use clear gesso over the sketch and begin the painting process.

The work is quiet and contemplative with clear colors. Brushstrokes range from small and precise to wide and free. I also use a palette knife occasionally. The paint itself is applied in light layers, building to create the desired feel." -- Amy Adkins Drayer
