Program Description

Event Details

Starting in the 1840s, the Marietta and Cincinnati Railroad company began cutting a path that would eventually link the two towns by locomotive. This presentation given by Cyrus Moore, a regional historian and Director of the Baltimore Area Community Museum, will chart the story of the first railroad to come through SE Ohio. We will examine why the company chose the original route, why its successor switched to a simpler one, and why remnants of the route have either been repurposed or left for nature to slowly reclaim.

Our guest speaker is professional regional historian, Cyrus Moore, who is also Director of the Baltimore Area Community Museum.

Sponsored by the Friends of Athens County Libraries.
