Event Details

Every culture on Earth passed through a stage of technological development between the javelin and the bow & arrow. This was the
atlatl: a javelin launcher! The atlatl provided the javelin (or dart)
the velocity needed to lethally penetrate the hide of mastodon or woolly
mammoth (or other mega-fauna) from many yards away. Re-discovered in
modern times, it is now a device for sporting competition. Bulls-eye
targets will be set up with the same body mass resistance as the animals
our ancestors once hunted.Show up on our library green and join
Ray Strischek and the Ohio Atlatl Association to

receive first-hand training from an expert!Sponsored by the Friends of the Athens Public Library.
