Approximately one percent of the U.S. population has schizophrenia, including many students at universities. Many people today are standing up to the challenge and unfair stigma surrounding the
disorder, accepting treatment, going into recovery, and living a
productive and fulfilling life. This is
certainly the case of Cecilia McGough, a Penn State student who, in good
command of her schizophrenia, has founded the national organization
Students with Schizophrenia, which seeks to de-stigmatize schizophrenia
and provide a safe venue in which students recovering from that disorder
can organize.Co-Sponsored by NAMI and the Friends of the Athens Public Library.
