Former president John Quincy Adams made his greatest excursion into America's
heartland nearly 15 years after he left the White House. Calling for the
establishment of an astronomical observatory in his first State of the
Union Address in 1825, Adams journeyed to Ohio via stagecoach and canal
to fulfill this dream in 1843. Learn more about Adams's 65+ years of political service, and how he helped lay the cornerstones of the first publicly financed astronomical observatory in North America, right here in the Buckeye State. Our guest presenter: Historian, ecologist, and astronomer Tom O'Grady, Executive Director of the Southeast Ohio History Center and an Ohio Humanities Speaker. For more info, visit ohiohumanities.org/speakers/tom-ogrady.
