Program Description

Event Details

There are hundreds of surviving words in the English language introduced by the Vikings, many of which we use every day in America in 2025 (like "egg," "knife," and "husband"). In the Middle Ages, there were thousands of words brought by Vikings. Learn the story of how this happened, how it impacted our language significantly (including our grammar), and changed English forever.

About our presenter: Dr. Marsha Dutton is a Medievalist scholar and retired professor of English.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Athens County Public Libraries
