When Native Americans first arrived in Ohio, Ice Age giants were still
wandering the countryside and glaciers likely covered a good amount of
the state. 12,000-13,000 years later, when the first Euro-Americans were
beginning to push into the Middle Ohio Valley, life was much different.
Corn was king, much as it is now, and people lived in large, circular
villages with hundreds of people...and dogs galore. What happened in
between, including the construction of immense geometric enclosures made
of earth and wood, is a fascinating tale of the human condition. Dr.
Jarrod Burks, an expert in geophysical surveying and locating ancient
sites, will highlight fascinating discoveries in Adena and Hopewell
earthwork research.
