Guest Author Event: Translating the Roman Poet Claudian

Claudian was an Ancient poet of the Roman Empire who wrote in Latin.  His poetry evokes not only a literary art that influenced the ages, but also contains historical content invaluable to understanding the times in which he lived.

This program will feature a presentation on the new translation in English, The Complete Works of Claudian, by our guest author/translator, Neil Bernstein, Professor of Classics at Ohio University.  Dr. Bernstein will discuss the importance of this poet, the nature of the world in which he lived, and what it was like to artfully translate Claudian's poetry into Modern English.
