Event Details

On display on the Circulation Area Wall from February 3rd thru February 27th.

Art Reception, Wednesday, February 5th, from 6:00pm-7:00pm.

Originally from Parkersburg, W.Va., Joe and his wife Sara moved to Athens County in 2008, where she wrote for The Athens Messenger while Joe created editorial cartoons and front page illustrations. Joe currently serves as the in-house artist for the Cannabis Museum in Canaanville, and his work is featured on Root 56 Farm’s line of local hot sauces. In 2003, Joe was diagnosed with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy, giving him a new outlook on life and what he considered to be the perfect reason to pursue making art as a full-time profession. Joe has found that digital art is a great medium for those who may have mobility issues or disabilities. In fact, much of Joe's artwork featured in this show was created using Procreate software on his iPad, which was funded through a grant from the Ohio Arts Council specifically aimed at artists with disabilities.

But Joe’s not the only artist in the Brumfield household. 13-year-old Athena, an 8th grader at Federal Hocking Middle School, grew up making art with her father. While her preferred medium is digital, Athena also enjoys watercolor and acrylic painting, nature photography, and is starting to dabble in embroidery. Fields of Brum is Joe and Athena's first collaborative show.
