Farmers Respond to Climate Change: Examples from Kenya & Appalachia

Dr. Edna Wangui, professor and chair of the Department of Geography at Ohio University, will present her research on adaptations made by Maasai pastoralists in response to pressures like climate change, highlighting the relevance of indigenous knowledge and practices.

Lindsay Klaunig of Trouvaille Farm in Athens will also discuss the regenerative farming methods she uses on land where she grazes livestock and grows vegetables and flowers for sale at local grocery stores and restaurants.

More about our presenters: Dr. Wangui has studied climate change adaptation in rural East Africa for two decades. Personal connections with the Maasai people enrich her fieldwork. Lindsay Klaunig's career in sustainable agriculture includes years of travel and learning as a berry picker, cheesemaker, and goatherd, before landing at her own farm in Athens, which has been recognized for land stewardship practices as Cooperator of the Year by our Soil & Water Conservation District.
