Thornfield Hall. Bertha's origins lie in the distant Caribbean, but what
is her back story? Why did she become the "savage" woman described in
Charlotte Brontë 's novel?
Caribbean writer Jean Rhys seeks to answer these questions in Wide Sargasso Sea, a Modern literary response to a classic British Victorian novel.
