Using the ancient tribal practice of shamanic journeying, most early cultures honored their genetic ancestors
by forming strong connections with them. How might we do this today? This
presentation describes shamanism and will draw from personal
experiences through ancestors ranging from the North of England to
Etruria, cultures that existed about 2000 years ago. We will also
discuss annual events like the Mexican Day of the Dead, which happen in
many cultures around All Hallows Eve, or American Halloween. Our presenter Dr. Crow Swimsaway has taught a course called “A Circle of Ancestors” since 1999. His book with the same title will be available for purchase. Swimsaway holds a BA and MA in
cultural anthropology from the University of Chicago, and a PhD in
social anthropology from the London School of Economics, London
University in England.
