Event Details

Ever wonder what it takes to raise chickens in your own backyard? Well, this workshop is for you and anyone wanting to learn more about chickens. Join Brielyn Bycofski for a fun and educational chicken 101 workshop. Brielyn Bycofski is a Senior at Athens High School. She is the President of the Athens FFA Chapter and the President of the Athens County Junior Fair Board. She has been keeping chickens for ten years and has dedicated her time learning about them through her 4-H projects and FFA record keeping. In addition to chickens, she also keeps ducks and peafowl. Over the past ten years she has learned a lot about keeping poultry and is exited to share her knowledge with others interested in keeping chickens.

Specific topics that will be discussed include: picking breeds that are right for you, egg and meat production, raising chicks, proper coop and run selection, common poultry diseases, general chicken care, and other important topics related to beginning chicken keeping. There will also be opportunities for you to ask specific questions on topics that are not covered. Everyone is welcome whether you are only considering getting chickens or you have raised them for years!
