Event Details
The bobcat is the mascot of our local university, but have you ever thought beyond that? Known scientifically as Lynx rufus, it is a species that clearly diverged from the Eurasian lynx here in North America some 20,000 years ago, when it was cut off from its parent population during the Ice Age, due to spreading glaciers. It is a species that was dwindling in the 20th century here in Ohio, but now it is making a comeback. Learn about its nature and how it survives here in our area in the present day.
Our guest speaker is Dr. Diego F. Alvarado-Serrano, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at Ohio University. Originally trained as a mammalogist, he currently works on a wide range of study systems, from plants to vertebrates and from temperate to tropical regions.
