The first smallpox vaccine administered in 1796 was considered a medical miracle. Today, vaccines are a normal part of our healthcare, and their widespread use has eradicated dozens of deadly diseases.
This talk will discuss how they are developed, as well as their history. It will also seek to answer common questions like, Why don’t we have vaccines for certain diseases? Why has a recent movement developed that believes vaccines are dangerous? How can we stop the spread of vaccine misinformation?

Guest speaker: Rachel Zapf, graduate student in the Department of Biological Sciences at Ohio University.
