Since the discovery of penicillin by Alexander Flemming in 1928, antibiotics
have revolutionized the medical industry and have saved countless lives
of those exposed to infectious diseases. Unfortunately,
their misuse and overuse has led us to an emerging healthcare crisis.
Many bacterial strains have become resistant to them, and the
development of new antibiotics is at a standstill. This presentation
will walk us through this bacterial evolution. Our guest speaker: Rebecca Keogh, microbiology graduate student at Ohio University's Department of Biological Sciences.
