Purpose of Meeting

Join Rising Appalachia, Rural Action, the Polygonia Foundation, and the Ohio Environmental Council for an interactive afternoon of activities that cultivate a sense of connection, belonging, and joy, while celebrating the beauty, hope, and resilience of our Land and fellow living beings. We will end the day with a facilitated conversation on climate change and the feelings children and families have around the topic for those who wish to participate.

Activities will include:

Recycling Relay & Upcycled Passports (Rural Action Environmental Education)

Recycling Relay: This interactive game challenges your knowledge of recyclable vs. true waste materials that we use every day! Learn about what items can be put in your local recycling bin and what items can't through a unique challenge of speedy decision making; but don't forget, many things can be reused!

Upcycled Name Tags and Punch Card Passports: Turn trash into a treasure hunt by turning discarded cardboard boxes into your punchard passport for the fair!

Growing Relationships (Rising Appalachia)

Explore ways to work with our diverse and multi-talented native Trees to support yourself and a healthy ecosystem. Free Trees for the first 30 guests thanks to the US Forest Service!

Animal Ambassadors (Rising Appalachia)

Join Rising Appalachia for a hands-on show and tell with our rescued Turtle friends! Meet Painty the Painted Turtle and his Box Turtle pals Jerry, Honey, and Taylor to laugh and learn about these amazing animals and how we can be good stewards to all of our fellow animal friends.

Leave the Leaves (The Polygonia Foundation)

Make Leaf Crafts and learn why fallen leaves are important to the world around them, including Butterflies and Moths!

Film plastic Litter Bugs (Rural Action Zero Waste)

From landfill destined trash to upcycled art, litterbugs are packed with nonrecyclable plastic! Conscious decisions in purchases can reduce the amount of this type of plastic that ends up in our landfills and as litter in our waterways. Blaming the consumer is a common trend, but we can take back the narrative through reducing, reusing, and recycling products.

Willow Staking(Rural Action Watersheds)

Learn about the wonderful work plants do to keep our water cool and clean, and how you can help!

Plus, we'll have the Ice Cream Bicycle to turn our People Power into a delicious, local snack, courtesy of Snowville Creamery and the Ohio Environmental Council!
